Charlotte walked along the cobbled streets heading for the small dress shop. All of the sudden she saw Mr. Collins. She stood stock still, and then slowly turned and started to walk away. She needed to not be seen by him.

Damn and blast! thought Charlotte. Her luck had to be the worst of all the women in Merryton. To be so singled out by Mr. Collins! Poor Lizzy! Knowing it was too late to keep walking, knowing that she could not slight him--a vicar--in public, she stoped, put a cheery smile on her face, and turned to greet him.
"My dear Mr. Collins! How wonderful to see you. I hear that you are having a lovely time at Loungbourn. Too bad Lizzy is to leave." She wrung her reticule strings in her hands. She just wanted to go to the shoppe and be done with it...but it seemed destiny had another plan all together.

Mr. Collins smiled at her "Ah, yes it is too bad that dear cousin Lizzy is leaving. Shall I escort you as you shop Miss. Charlotte"

Charlotte stood for a moment debating what she should do..."Er...yes, Mr. Collins, that would be lovely."

Suprised because she half expected him to take her arm, Charlotte walked on toward the shope. Three doors later, Charlotte turned to Mr. Collins. "You are welcome to come in, but I am not sure if you want to. I mean...I think it would most probably become an awkward situation...but..."

She looked into the shope, "It is a Milliners shope...they do dress fittings and such. I do not think that you, a humble vicar, would feel comfortable in a shope filled with the whims of women."

"Ah yes well then I shall wait out here for, then shall I?" he offered glancing at the sign nervously

"That would be ideal, yes." Charlotte walked into the shoppe and sighed. That was a close call...why couldn't the man see she didn't fancy him? She had already set her cap for Charles. She walked over to the shopkeep and gathered her things. Paying him, she walked back out to the sidewalk, almost like a French refugee to the gillotine.

Mr. Collins smiled when Charolotte walked out of the shop. "Where to next, Miss?"

Charlotte wanted to roll her eyes, but she refrained. Her father's fortune did indeed smell of trade, but surely someone even of the employed stature would know it was quite unseemly to call someone just 'miss'.
"I am off to the butchers. Although it pains my Mamma to think of me venturing into such a place of trade, cook's gout is worked up again and she must stay off her feet. I thought it senseless to send out a maid when I myself was walking into town."
