Charlotte brought him in through the tarrace doors. She stopped in the music room and turned to him, "Well, what do you think?"

"Wow," Charles smiled, "Makes my rooms seem kind of bland."

She smiled, "This room is specificly for me and my sister's use. I dearly love music, you see."

"I don't have much experience in it, but yes, it can be beautiful." Charles noted.

Charlotte smiled and walked over to the pianoforte, "I will start with just the pianoforte piece, then I will move on to the ballad. How does that sound?" She played the scales while waiting for him to answer.

Charles turned his head to one side, in a confused smile, he answered, "Yes.... that sounds, nice."

Charlotte finsihed her scales and played a tune from memory. They music floated about the room, making her think of nothing but her feelings and her hands above the keys. Nothing mattered but right now.

Charles sat cross-legged on the floor, and let himself listen.

When Charlotte got done playing, she looked up to find Charles not standing before the pianoforte. She looked down to see him sitting on the floor. With a sigh, she said, "Charles, what on earth are you doing sitting on the floor...there is a chair not three feet behind you..."

"I prefer to sit like this." Charles said simply, "closer to earth and all that."

Charlotte looked at him strangely and continued to play. "I promised a song...I'll go with Loch Lomond. One of my favorite things to sing are Scottish ballads. Mama finds them vulgar because she say the scot's are heathen. I don't believe that. They are people just as you and me, so I choose to sing their songs as a gesture of kindness. It seems odd, and I suppose it is, but I enjoy doing it to also set Mama on edge."
She started playing the first few notes:
"By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes, Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond Where me and my true love were ever wont to gae, On the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
Oh! Ye'll take the high road, and I'll take the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye, But me and my true love will never meet again, On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. "
She paused for a moment after her usually nimble fingers fummbled on the keys, making the next notes sour. She blushed profuesly and placed her hands in her lap.

"Please, don't stop." Charles whispered, "Let me listen more."

Charlotte couldn't tell Charles that she could play when he was in the room! What was she to do? Her fingers decided not to obey when she thought about Charles watching her play. Taking a deep breath, she smiled and put her fingers back to the keys:
"'Twas then that we parted, In yon shady glen, On the steep, steep side of Ben Lomond, Where, in purple hue, The highland hills we view, And the moon coming out in the gloaming.
Oh! Ye'll take the high road, and I'll take the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye, But me and my true love will never meet again, On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
The wee birdies sing, And the wild flowers spring, And in sunshine the waters sleeping. But the broken heart it kens, Nae second spring again, Though the waeful may cease frae their greeting."
She smiled brightly, she was very proud of herself. She got through the second part of the song without mishap. She proundly folded her hands in her lap, and looked exspectanly down at Charles, "So, what do you think?"

Charles let a smile spread across his face as she finished the song, "Beautiful." Charles said simply, keeping his eyes closed.

Charlotte resisted the urge to poke Charles, "Well, thank you. I don't usually preform for an audience."
