Stood on the corner waiting for Lizzie to catch up. She couldn't remember why she was not with her in the first place. Maybe she stopped to tie her boot or something. Jane shrugged and smiled at the old woman who had stopped to tell her how pretty she was. She got tired of being put on a pedestal. It was quite disgusting, really.

"Jane!" Lizzy ran to catch up with her sister. "I've just seen Mr. Wickham. He says that he'll be attending the ball at Netherfield Park!"

"Really? I though...never mind. Oh, Lizzie! I am so happy for you!" She hugged her sister. "If only Caroline would leave her brother's side. To tell you the truth, Lizzie, I don't think she likes me."

"Of course she doesn't! Caroline Bingley doesn't care for any female other than herself, and perhaps Mr Darcy's sister, Georgianna. I'm quite sure that she would adore you if you were to inherit a large fortune!" As soon as the words were out of her mouth, Lizzy realized that perhaps that was not the most comforting thing that she could have said to her sister. "However, I am quite positive that one Mr Charles Bingley utterly adores you, no matter what his darling sister says. Really dearest, you have nothing to worry about!"

Jane grabbed her sister's hands, "Oh, I know that. It's just he let's Caroline and his other sister, lead him around by the nose. One day I will get hurt by her. Oh, dear. Now I sound morbid. Well, be happy Wickham is going. There might be a few issues between him and Mr. Darcy..." Jane hedged...she didn't want her sister to know some of the awful things that he had done to poor Mr. Darcy. But Jane dare not say that to Lizzie.

"Do not worry about the Bingleys, and they will not bother you for now. Oh, I doubt that Caroline would do anything at the ball. An accomplished lady such as herself wouldn't risk public humiliation." Lizzy smirked, even though she knew that such a facial expression was unbecoming of a young lady about in town. "Oh, and I'm sure that Mr Wickham and I shall have a wonderful time at the ball, what with he and Mr Darcy despising each other so greatly. I feel bad for Wickham's misfortunes, but I long to know Darcy's side in the whole thing."

Jane sighed inwardly, "Yes, poor Mr. Wickham, what he must have suffered. I do wish you would show a bit more consideration toward Mr. Darcy, dear. You and I were raised better than that, although not Kitty and Lydia. Don't stoop to their level. You may never be able to get back up." Jane smiled slightly, as she drew attention if she smiled too brightly. The last thing they needed was for some one to over hear their conversation.

"Yes, you are right, as usual. Well let us not talk of such gloomy matters!" Lizzy began to skip ahead of Jane. "Come!" she called, "Let us go buy some ribbons for the ball!"

Jane chuckled softly, "Lizzie dear, be careful, you are starting to sound like Lydi."

"Well perhaps I cannot help it. I am rather excited about the ball, and about seeing Mr Wick--" Lizzy had chanced a look foward, rather than at her sister's face, and was quite shocked to see that they had almost crashed into Mr Darcy.

Jane grabbed Lizzie's shoulders and looked up at Mr. Darcy. He didn't stop he just walked right past them. Jane felt sorry for him, but the nerve of the man. Almost knocking poor Lizzie over and not stopping to give her the time of day. Why, it was odious!
"Lizzie, dear, are you all righ?"

"Yes, quite." Lizzy struggled to catch her breath. Mr Darcy really was quite handsome when he was angry. NO! She must get such thoughts out of her head! "I wonder why Mr Darcy was so angry!?" Lizzy said calmly.

Darcy heard his name in the coversation behind him. He registered some where in his brain that it was the Bennet sisters'. He thought about completely walking away, but Bingley would have none of it.
Turning he addressed Miss Elizabeth Bennet, "I am sorry for nearly causing you to fall. It was unkind of me."

Lizzy curtsied at the dark, mysterious man. "It was my fault, sir. I should have looked at where I was going." She curtsied again, this time to hide the blush that she could feel was rising to her cheeks.

Darcy felt highly uncomfortable with all the scraping and bowing. His cheeks pinkened lightly, "Please, Miss Elizabeth, none of that."
