"Is there another way you know of?" Charles asked, manging to keep a straight face.

She tried to look thoughtful, "I think it would be best for all involved if you kept your rarity a secret. If it got out, you would probably meet a woman three times as pretty and three times as smart as me out there somewhere. We couldn't have that, now could we?"

"Not only is it impossible, but I am fully loyal to you." Charles said in full confidence.

She smiled, "That is sweet, Charles, but if you met someone else, I am sure you'd find her far more attractive than myself. It is just the way males work."

She looked back at him, he eyes twinkling with tears that she refused to shed, "Long ago, may six or so years, I was betrothed to a man almost like you. He professed his love for me and made me so many beautiful promises. He asked me to marry him and of course I accepted. Little did I know that we were to have new neighbors. She was a blonde, pretty thing. All the rage at the time. He saw her as prettier and smarter and all above else more willing. I was left in the dust, Charles, by a man who told me he loved me. Until recently, after seeing him in town almost every day since then, I thought I was still in love with him. But now I have met you, I know different. Charles, you must see how this makes me more than a bit skeptical about most of the men I meet."

"I'm sorry." Charles said, "But this is more than just love, this is predetermined, a choice of fate I am jumping for joy for."

She smiled, tears still in her eyes, "Thank you for that."

She laughed happily and the tears slipped from the corners of her eyes. She didn't pull away from him to bother dashing them off her cheeks.

Charles grinned, "We're still getting married, but where should we go?"

Her brow furrowed, "Whatever do you mean, Charles?"

"To get married, where can we go?" Charles said. "You, did accept my proposal."
