Darcy was strolling down the shoplined walkway of Merryton. He was taking a break from the tedium of Miss Bingley and her vile sister. He loved Charles like a brother, but he didn't have to like his sisters. The only female that he could stand was his sister, Georgiana.

Elizabeth hurried down the road, distracted by her thoughts. She was supposed to have went by the dress shop already and been home, but instead she had stopped by her friend Charlotte's house first, a decision she was currently regretting. Suddenly she felt a bump, as she teetered backwards reaching out a hand to be caught and hoping not to fall and ruin one of her newer dresses...

Darcy felt a woman run headlong into him. He knew her as one of the Bennet girls. He knew not which one. He pulled her close to steady her, only to be bowled over by her looks. Catching his breath, he said, "Hello, Miss Bennet."

Elizabeth looked him in the eyes, what beautiful eyes, and smiled before shaking herself off and steadying herself away from this man, "Hello there Mr..." She smiled a brighter smile, trying to distract him from her scatterbrained-ness at forgetting his name

Struck dumb yet again, Darcy cleared his throat, "It's Mr. Darcy, miss. I do beleive we met at the assembly room the other night."

Elizabeth giggled lightly and nodded with mirth, "Ah! Yes, Darcy...your...that....one guy....yes I remember you I am sure of it." She smiled a bit longer before patting him on the shoulder, "Thank you for keeping me from falling...I would have been very upset, and you saved me..." She glanced into his beautiful eyes once more, "So, thank you, very much."

Darcy was slightly startled by her very forward pat on his shoulder. He stammered, "Well--no problem Miss Bennet. Any time."

Elizabeth shook her head at him, he must be new around here..., before laughing, "It's Elizabeth, but please, call me Lizzy..." Her eyes twinkled in barely concealed laughter, "You did save my life after all, Mr. Darcy."

Again, he was shocked by her forward behavior. Women of the ton would never act in such a boyish, hoydenish, forward manor. But it was the way in some provential towns. "Well then Miss Be--Lizzy, I am glad to be of service. Next time you feel the need to get tangled in your hem, please, do fall in my arms again." Two could play this game.

Lizzy smirked, ah...so he is a quick one, before winking at him, "Oh, but Mr. Darcy, if I always fall into your arms, the other boys in the town might get jealous...and we cannot have that now can we?" She then leaned forward and in a mocking stage whisper said, "But, I will give a deep and sincere consideration to your suggestion..."

He smiled a bit rakishly, "I suppose that means you have quite a few local lads sniffing 'round your skirts? Is there to be a chance for a poor passer through?"

Lizzy gave him a mirthful laugh before smiling brightly, "Well...not generally...but for a fine gentleman such as you...I may consider your application among the many others I have. I'll have you know I only keep the finest within my beaux...do you think you are of the type?"

The slightly smug, rakish smiled remained, "Well, do you think I'd pass muster? I have been told, by a select few, mind you, that I am quite...desierable..." What in the bloody hell was he thinking? To talk to a woman in that manner!

Lizzy smirked at him before winking flirtaciously, "Well, I don't know Mr. Darcy. It seems as if those select few might want you all for themselves and their...desires...there may not be room enough for me in your repertoire..." She then moved closer towards him almost in attempt to see if he would back down, "You know...most men find my kind of forwardness....intimidating, Mr. Darcy...how about you?"

Darcy chuckled; that one was a dead hit. He couldn't help but smile fully. "My dear Lizzy, I must say I was...suprised." His lowered his voice and under it there was a promise, "The Darcys' aren't known for backing down from challenges."
